In harmony with nature

People are becoming steadily more aware of healthy lifestyle choices. GROHE reacted to this trend at an early stage and has been committed ever since to resource-saving product technologies and production methods. By operating its own furnaces, GROHE has full control over the materials used and has achieved a significant reduction in the amount of lead in its metal alloys – with a positive effect on drinking water hygiene. As a result, we can be sure that the water we drink is completely safe. GROHE is also a forerunner in the field of recycling. In this issue we introduce three projects that were implemented in cooperation with GROHE.

BHBVT Architects of Berlin integrated the Institute for Climate Impact Research thoroughly and unobtrusively into a building itself is a research facility for testing state-of-the-art eco-friendly materials.

Our interview this issue is with Herwig Spiegl (see cover) of AllesWirdGut Architects of Vienna. With its Gallgasse project in Vienna, the agency created a gleaming white ensemble of upscale housing in park-like surroundings. Despite the constraints that a conversion entails, AWG succeeded in creating a conversation among the elements of light, air, open space and architecture. Spiegl talks to us about the company philosophy “Together we can do more”, which is close to the hearts of all four of the firm’s partners therefore consistently pursued. We also introduce the agency in this issue’s Portrait.

The German School in Madrid, designed by Grüntuch Ernst Architects of Berlin, consists of a matrix of irregular polygons repeated on varying scales throughout the new building. The design incorporates a secondary school, primary school and kindergarten. Special energy-saving technology reduces the need for mechanical air conditioning by pre-cooling the air outside.
